Job Overview
Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with Hospital policies, the Nursing Assistant (NA) provides basic direct and indirect care as a member of the patient care team. Responsibilities include measuring, recording and reporting patient information, assisting with activities of daily living, and simple treatments and procedures. The NA addresses age‑appropriate and cultural needs, maintains a clean unit environment, and communicates patient status changes to the RN or Resource Nurse.
Responsibilities- Accurately observe, record, and report patient information.
- Adhere to nursing care standards and hospital policies.
- Assess and document vital signs on stable patients as required.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide efficient care as assigned.
- Follow safety guidelines for self, patient, visitors, and employees.
- Complete orientation program and participate in learning activities.
- Consider age‑specific needs when interacting with patients and families.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, especially in stressful situations.
- Maintain patient identification and allergy band at all times.
- Follow unit and departmental staffing and scheduling guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment, including child‑proofing where applicable.
- Order and maintain equipment and supplies for the unit and desk area.
- Provide break relief or assist the unit clerk as needed.
- Assist patients with rehabilitative activities when cross‑trained and supervised.
- Orient patients and families to the environment.
- Perform routine patient care (hygiene, nutrition, elimination, measuring I/O) using universal precautions.
- Provide sitter duties when needed.
- Respond appropriately to emergency events, notifying personnel and engaging interdisciplinary team members.
- Respond to alarms and report to RN when outside parameters.
- Handle messages and communicate patient flow (admissions, transfers, discharges) to Resource Nurse and others.
- Stock room with supplies as needed.
- Transfer patients to off‑unit procedures per transport policy.
- Use electronic health record (EHR) per job requirements and policies.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Accurately, completely, and independently read, write, and perform arithmetic.
- Be patient, courteous, and use active listening skills.
- Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with staff, patients, and families.
- Demonstrate customer service skills in high‑volume, stressful situations.
- Learn standard nursing procedures and elicit patient symptom information.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Provide appropriate care based on individual needs, including age.
- Solve problems effectively using appropriate resources.
- Speak, read, write, and understand English at job‑appropriate level.
- Take and record vital signs.
- Transport patients as needed for admission, discharge, or procedures.
- Understand basic nursing principles, medical terminology, and procedures.
- Use computer systems and software in functional area.
- Apply standard asepsis, hygiene, and infection control procedures.
- Chart accurately and consistently.
- Use standard instruments and equipment for routine examinations and treatment.

CompensationBase Pay Scale:
Generally starting at $ per hour. Salary set based on internal equity, experience, education, and other factors.
