Clinical Nurse (RN) - Hematology​/Oncology (AAU F3) - 0.9 FTE, 12-HR, Rotating Shift

Overview

Stanford Health Care is hiring a Clinical Nurse (CN), an RN who provides hands‑on care in an evidence‑based manner while operating within the Scope of Practice of the California Nursing Practice Act, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies. The CN performs all steps of the nursing process, collaborates with the patient’s family, monitors quality of care, and engages in continuous professional development.

• Establish therapeutic relationships, creating a climate conducive to healing, managing patient discomfort, and providing emotional support.
• Obtain accurate assessment data, interpret normal vs abnormal findings, and determine nursing diagnoses.
• Collaborate with the patient, family, and health‑care team to develop individualized care plans, implement interventions safely, and evaluate effectiveness.
• Teach patients, families, and staff—both formally and informally—about self‑care, illness prevention, and role responsibilities.
• Respond rapidly to changing situations, activate emergency protocols, and ensure quality healthcare practices.
• Prioritize requests, delegate tasks appropriately, and contribute to unit programs and meetings to foster teamwork and morale.
• Utilize technology for communication, documentation, and locating information on clinical situations and treatments.
• Engage in continuous learning, maintain current knowledge, and conduct professional practice evaluations.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university (preferred).
• Minimum one year of RN experience in an oncology or chemotherapy setting.
• Effective communication skills in English.
• Current American Heart Association certification:
  Basic Life Support (BLS);
  Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required by the cost center.
• Valid California Registered Nurse (CA‑RN) license.
• ONS/ONCC® Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate (preferred).
• Physical ability to lift patients, bend, stoop, and walk frequently.
• Willingness to work non‑traditional shifts, including weekends when required (note: weekends‑only is not eligible for premium pay).

• Frequent lifting of patients and equipment; bending, stooping, and walking.
• Exposure to risk of contagious disease, radiation, or infection; use of protective clothing or gear as necessary.
• Emotional stress when working with disturbed patients.

The Clinical Nurse is represented by the Committee for Recognition of Nursing Achievement (CRONA), an independent union for registered nurses at Stanford Health Care and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Additional professional activities may include teaching, research, publications, and participation in shared governance.

Base pay scale generally starts at $96.35 – $111.14 per hour. Final salary is determined by internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
