Practice Anesthesia At Stanford
At Stanford Health Care, anesthesia is more than a service line—it's a specialty at the forefront of innovation, education, and patient care. As our surgical programs continue to grow and new operating rooms come online, we are expanding our CRNA team from 60 to 75 providers and are seeking talented CRNAs who want to be part of a collaborative, high-performing anesthesia department.
If you're looking for a position that combines clinical excellence, professional growth, work-life balance, and the opportunity to practice alongside some of the most respected anesthesia professionals in the country, Stanford may be the place for you.
A Practice Designed for Professional Satisfaction Stanford utilizes an Anesthesia Care Team (ACT) model, with CRNAs and anesthesiologists working together in a collaborative and collegial environment. Our anesthesiologist-to-CRNA ratio is typically 1:3, supporting both autonomy and teamwork while ensuring exceptional patient care.
One of the things our CRNAs value most is the culture of mutual respect between CRNAs and anesthesiologists. We are proud of the strong professional relationships that exist throughout the department and the shared commitment to clinical excellence.
As an academic medical center, Stanford is also home to one of the nation's leading anesthesiology residency programs. Education is part of our DNA, and our department regularly hosts Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs) from the UC Davis and Samuel Merritt University CRNA programs. Whether you enjoy mentoring future providers or simply appreciate practicing in a learning-focused environment, you'll find opportunities to contribute and grow.
Schedule and Work-Life Balance We currently have openings for:
- 0.9 FTE positions
- Three 12-hour shifts per week (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Occasional 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM shifts (approximately once per month)
Perhaps most importantly, these positions offer something many anesthesia providers are seeking:
- No scheduled nights
- No call requirements
- No weekend requirements
- Participation in faculty-led research projects
- Quality improvement initiatives
- Leadership opportunities
- Education and mentorship activities
- Departmental committees and strategic initiatives
This schedule allows our CRNAs to enjoy meaningful time away from work while still practicing in a challenging and rewarding clinical environment.
Growth Opportunities Beyond the Operating Room Stanford is committed to helping Advanced Practice Providers build long-term careers. CRNAs have access to an established Advanced Practice Provider Career Ladder, creating clear pathways for professional advancement and compensation growth based on demonstrated achievement and contribution.
Our CRNAs are also encouraged to pursue interests beyond direct clinical care, including:
Whether your passion is patient care, quality, education, research, or leadership, Stanford offers opportunities to expand your impact.
A Team That Is Growing Together Like many successful organizations experiencing rapid expansion, we are navigating growth. We are honest about the fact that growth brings challenges—but it also brings opportunity.
What makes Stanford unique is a leadership team that is deeply committed to supporting providers through that growth. Our focus is not simply on hiring new CRNAs; it is on helping them succeed, develop professionally, and build lasting careers within our organization.
We are intentionally working to maintain a close-knit culture despite our increasing size, and we are looking for CRNAs who are excited to contribute to a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Life in the Bay Area Beyond the walls of Stanford Health Care, the Bay Area offers an exceptional quality of life.
