About the Role

Day - 10 Hour (United States of America) The Urologic Oncology program focuses on the investigation and management of cancers of the prostate, bladder, kidney, testis and genitalia. The program is dedicated to finding cancer treatments that offer the greatest efficacy with the fewest complications and are based on a multi‑specialty approach. We are dedicated to transforming cancer care and are committed to the quality of the patient experience throughout the continuum of their care.

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with world‑renowned medical oncologists who are experts in Urologic Medical Oncology. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant will also work closely with other members of the cancer care team who provide clinical trials coordination, multispecialty tumor boards, supportive care, palliative care, and survivorship.

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant will assess and manage patients in collaboration with an attending physician, including new patient assessments as well as for treatment, routine surveillance, and urgent evaluation. They will manage and order diagnostic and imaging tests, prescription medications, chemotherapy and provide support for patient calls and symptom management. They will effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.

• Clinically evaluate and manage patients with acute, chronic complaints and health‑maintenance concerns related to specialty, according to written standardized procedures. Obtains complete histories and performs pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients, according to written standardized procedures.
• Perform or request and evaluate diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient, according to written standardized procedures.
• Administer, order, furnish and prescribe medications, according to written standardized procedures.
• Order and collect specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood product.
• Order physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations and nursing services.
• Perform designated procedures after demonstrated competency, according to written standardized procedures where applicable.
• Obtain informed consent, as indicated.
• Initiate arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and complete appropriate paperwork.
• As directed by the supervising physician, enroll patients in investigational studies approved by the Investigational Review Board (IRB), and order the necessary tests and medications. Medications that are not FDA‑approved or are used for a non‑FDA‑approved indication (off‑label use) require a patient‑specific order in advance from the supervising physician.
• After appropriate training, assist the supervising physician in the operating room.
• The RN First Assistant directly assists the surgeon and practices under the supervision of the surgeon during the intra‑operative phase. The RN First Assistant must adhere to standardized procedures and not concurrently function as a scrub nurse.
• Recognizes and considers age‑specific needs of patients.
• Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiates life‑saving procedures when necessary.
• Facilitates the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed.
• Facilitates collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources.
• Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory and clinical policies and procedures.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
• Provides and coordinates patient teaching and counseling.
• Other duties as assigned.
