Job Description JOB SUMMARY

Clinical Nurse Specialists are advanced practice Registered Nurses with a Master’s Degree, focused on providing care for patients with multiple or complex health needs within a specified clinical area. They use advanced clinical, educational, research, and administrative expertise to promote optimal health and improve nursing practice.

Essential Functions
  • Provide specialized nursing care and advance quality and scope of nursing practice through clinical practice, education, research, consultation, and administrative roles.
  • Assess, plan, provide, and evaluate specialized nursing care for patients, often in areas such as diabetes, cardiology, respiratory, or pediatrics.
  • Analyze unit patient care plans, develop assessment tools, and collaborate on documentation standards.
  • Demonstrate expertise in daily patient care, directing staff in the nursing process.
  • Implement and evaluate therapeutic and preventative nursing measures.
  • Coordinate nursing and medical plans of care in collaboration with managers and other researchers.
  • Teach specialized knowledge and skills necessary for the specialty service area.
  • Offer consultative services to nursing and other disciplines.
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and monitor unit standards of care.
  • Provide direct patient care, ensuring safety, comfort, and treatment according to legal and ethical standards.
  • Serve as a consultant to patients, families, and staff.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in a work‑related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible, directly related work experience.
  • Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support certification by the American Heart Association (AHA) or RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Research skills: conduct, document, and recommend.
  • Patient assessment and care planning.
  • Educational program development for staff.
  • Advanced nursing skills in specialty area.
  • Knowledge of advanced clinical practice education, consultation, research, and administration.
  • Knowledge of clinical operations, workflow, and procedures.
  • Customer service principles and quality standards.
  • Understanding of nursing field principles and developments.
Physical Requirements

Pay Range & Benefits

Compensation is based on the role’s level and requirements. Salary may range from $90.19 to $112.73 per hour.
