Archetype AI is hiring a Senior AI Research Scientist as a backfill for Jamie. You will join the core research team and work on machine learning systems for real-world physical environments. The company has raised a Series A, has customers, and its technology is already deployed in production. This is a research-heavy role focused on sensor data and other non-image modalities.
You will develop models that perform reliably in real-world settings and work closely with research and engineering teams to move ideas from experimentation into deployment.
- Lead research projects from problem definition through experimentation and deployment.
- Develop ML models for sensor data and other physical-world signals.
- Investigate representation learning, self-supervised learning, and unsupervised learning approaches.
- Adapt existing models to new data and changing real-world conditions.
- Work with the core research and engineering teams to move research into production.
- Communicate research decisions, findings, and trade-offs clearly across the company.
- 5-8 years of experience in AI/ML research, or equivalent depth of experience.
- Strong experience working with sensor data or other non-image data.
- Experience in robotics, audio, or another physical-world ML domain.
- A track record of taking research beyond papers and into practical systems.
- The initiative and autonomy to lead a research direction independently.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain research clearly to collaborators.
- Industry experience is preferred, though strong candidates from research labs or academia will also be considered.
- Representation learning.
- Self-supervised or unsupervised learning.
- Model adaptation or domain adaptation, especially adapting models to new data after deployment.
- Experience with LLMs alongside strong experience in sensor data, robotics, audio, or another physical domain.
- Experience at a strong research-driven technology company.
Bay Area preferred, with an expectation of working from the office 2-3 days per week. Open to candidates elsewhere in the United States or Canada, including Texas. Europe is not eligible for this role, including France.
Compensation$,000 USD annually. Compensation will be reviewed after the initial three-month period based on performance and scope.
