Introduction:

The Architectural Trades are an integral part of maintaining and improving the structures on campus. These shops provide a range of services to academic, research, library and special University facilities which include the following:

Emergency Response

Routine Maintenance

Repairs & Alterations to Existing Structures

All skilled craftspeople, many with decades of experience on campus, these technicians are a vital resource for anyone planning a remodeling project in their building.

Need cabinets? Just moved into a new area and the space needs some modifications? From leaky roofs to lunchroom remodels, our Carpentry Shop is available for all of your building needs.

Services provided:

Maintenance and repair to all campus structures

Custom woodworking

Cabinetry

Rough and finish carpentry

Design for office furniture systems

Tenant improvement work

Permit required work

Job Responsibilities:

Employees in this classification are assigned the responsibility to lead and direct two or more other Carpenters in addition to performing the duties specified for the Maintenance Carpenter classification. The Carpenter Lead position also is tasked with assessing, communicating and calculating official estimates for potential projects at the request of the customer. Employees at this level do not have supervisory authority over other employees and are not expected to exercise independent judgment on final decisions regarding quality or quantity of work produced by such employees, or personnel actions such as hiring, promotion, discharge or disciplinary measures.

Assign and explain tasks to workers based on instructions and specifications received from Supervisor.

Inspect work for conformance with specifications.

Train employees to meet quality and quantity standards.

Advise supervisor of work progress.

Assist Supervisor or other employees to solve task‑related problems

Record information on the work performed by others, maintain inventory records and track budgetary progress of large projects, keeping customers informed.

Develop and create estimates for department projects to be used by the department and customers. Follow up on projects quoted that do not become work orders to understand what we can do to increase the pull‑through rate.

Meet with customers requesting advice or options, guiding them to the best possible solution based on cost, quality and fit for the purpose of the request. Continually act as an LBRE ambassador on campus, spreading the awareness of our capabilities and passion for the maintenance and restoration of our LEGACY of buildings here on campus.

Promote adherence to safety rules by ensuring that safety rules are followed and injuries are prevented at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

Carpenter Lead has all of the qualifications described in the Maintenance Carpenter specification plus the following qualifications:

Must be skilled in coordinating with other trades and be able to solve task‑related problems.
