Software Engineer - Vehicle Access Cloud at Rivian and VW Group Technology Palo Alto, CA

Role Summary

The Staff Software Engineer will serve as a technical leader and visionary, playing a pivotal role in defining and evolving the architectural roadmap for cloud backend systems supporting Vehicle Access Software across the entire vehicle lineup. This role is responsible for ensuring the secure, efficient, and reliable integration of user identity, access mechanisms, and vehicle systems at an organizational scale. As a staff engineer, you will drive complex technical initiatives, provide deep technical expertise and guidance to multiple engineering teams, and collaborate with cross‑functional leadership to deliver highly scalable, performant, and secure solutions that align with long‑term business objectives.

• Lead architectural design and evolution of highly scalable, secure backend components for vehicle access software.
• Drive API development and standardization for secure data exchange across microservices, mobile, and embedded systems.
• Champion and implement best practices for scalability, reliability, performance, and security.
• Collaborate strategically with cross‑functional leadership on complex integrations and initiatives.
• Partner with mobile device OEMs to define and drive software integration.
• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to senior engineers, leading design reviews.
• Identify and address systemic technical challenges, optimizing processes and improving system health.
• Define and maintain organizational technical documentation, including architectural roadmaps and API specifications.

• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science or related field.
• 8+ years in software engineering, focused on high‑performance, distributed microservices in the automotive or a related industry.
• Expert in Go, Python, or Java; extensive experience with AWS/Azure, Kubernetes, and Cloud HSM.
• Exceptional problem‑solver, adept at navigating complex technical challenges.
• Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels.
• Proven ability to drive technical strategy and architectural decisions.

• Proficient in advanced Dev Ops practices, including infrastructure as code and automated deployments.
• Deep understanding of CCC Digital Key, Identity or Access Management Systems, and cybersecurity best practices.

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $186,000 - $232,500 USD (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
