Overview
SpaceX is developing technologies to enable human life on Mars. SpaceX leverages its experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation, providing fast, reliable internet to millions of users worldwide. SpaceX designs, builds, tests, and operates all parts of the system – satellites, consumer receivers, and the software that brings it together.
We are seeking engineers to maximize Starlink’s utility for communities and businesses globally.
As Starlink grows to serve billions of users, the CDN team will be pivotal in building scalable distributed systems underlying future offerings for users and customers around the world.
Responsibilities- Design, build, and scale a new Content Delivery Network (CDN) for Starlink
- Build robust, responsive, and scalable distributed systems
- Develop tools, visibility, and alerting to diagnose, operate, and maintain complex, business-critical systems in real time
- Design algorithms to optimize hardware utilization and cost efficiency against performance metrics
- Implement systems that shape traffic across multiple CDNs
- Participate in and lead architecture, design, and code reviews
- Develop prototypes and run experiments to validate future design concepts and use cases for Starlink
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or other STEM discipline and 5+ years of professional software development experience; or 7+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
- Software development experience in C, C++, or Rust
- 3+ years of professional distributed systems experience or experience designing, building, and scaling a CDN system
- 3+ years of professional networking experience
- Advanced degree in computer science or engineering
- Experience on complex networking systems (layers 0-7)
- Experience with Edge Networking, DNS, Traffic Management, Caching, Load Balancing, SSL/TLS, DDoS protection, and/or monitoring
- Knowledge of network topology, numerical optimization techniques, graph theory, or convex optimization
- Developed, debugged, and deployed scalable software used in real-world applications
- Creative problem solving, strong analytical skills, and solid engineering fundamentals
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed
Pay range:
Software Engineer / Senior: $ - $ per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis based on job-related knowledge, education, and experience.
Base salary is part of a total rewards package including potential long-term incentives (stock or options), discretionary bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, and comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage.
