DESCRIPTION
The Fitness Attendant serves as a frontline staff member on the wellness floor, providing support, guidance, and a welcoming environment for members. This role includes assisting members with equipment, answering questions, demonstrating proper exercise techniques, and ensuring a safe, clean, and positive workout space. The Fitness Attendant helps build relationships with members, encourages consistent participation, and reinforces healthy habits.
SALARY RANGE$20.00 - $25.00
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Current YMCA-approved CPR and First Aid certification, Y-USA, and Redwoods required training completed within first 90 days.
- Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Ability to use and teach others how to use fitness equipment.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA. Introduces new members to group exercise communities based on their health and well-being goals.
- Utilizes tools and information for the purpose of increasing member knowledge of wellness as well as wellness programs provided through the YMCA (handouts, schedules, etc.).
- Maintains and cleans equipment according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor.
- Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
- Maintenance employees and volunteers-ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 45 pounds
- Must be flexible to a schedule that may include some nights, early mornings, and weekends.
- Ability to work in a team setting with staff and volunteers as well as work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience and ability to use a computer.
