Job SummaryUnder general supervision, to assist in coordinating the safe, efficient and on‑time performance of school bus service, to assist in the effective utilization of personnel and equipment. Resolve emergency developments as they arise by determining steps to be taken by drivers; and to perform other job‑related duties as required.
Qualifications- Valid California Commercial Driver's License, Class A or B, with Passenger Endorsement.
- Current California Special Driver Certificate, valid for driving school buses.
- Current DMV approved Medical Certificate.
- Current approved First Aid card, if applicable (i.e. restriction 6 on Special Driver Certificate) and CPR.
- Have and maintain a driving record that meets Palo Alto Unified School District's insurance requirements.
- Assist in coordinating the daily operation and routines of the pupil transportation program.
- Under the direction of the Transportation Supervisor, effectively plan and assign bus routes.
- Perform emergency coordinating and dispatching when regularly scheduled bus operations are interrupted.
- Communicate with drivers by radio or telephone to prevent interruption of service in emergency situations.
- Assign daily work schedules for substitute bus drivers and extracurricular trips.
- Assist the Supervisor in the development of the Department budget.
- Keep time and mileage records and develop reports.
- Schedule field trips and other special runs.
- Communicate with District Staff and the public regarding transportation.
- Serve as a bus driver in emergencies or as required.
- Comply with Federal, State, and municipal laws and district policies related to bus operation.
- Answer telephone and/or in-person inquiries and comments.
- Respond to complaints and schedule changes, student additions/deletions, etc., referring to appropriate personnel when necessary.
