This position requires a strong commitment to teaching while incorporating technology and innovation in the delivery of instruction. The ability to infuse new approaches into the teaching/learning process is essential. Candidates must be able to work actively and collegially. The responsibilities of a fire services instructor are to provide hands‑on and classroom instruction in the use of fire services equipment and tools.
Education/Experience- Associate's Degree (A.A.S) required, Bachelor's and/or Master's preferred
- Certification as a State Fire Marshal's Office Fire Officer 2 or Advanced Fire Officer (AdFO) and Instructor 2 to teach any of the Basic Company Officer (CoFO) or Advanced Fire Officer (AdFO) courses- which requires a minimum of 3 years' fire service experience to obtain.
- Certification as a State Fire Marshal's Office Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter and Instructor 1 or higher to teach Fire Academy Courses.
- Appropriate recognized credential depending on the specific field AND minimum (1-2 years) 2,000 hours of relevant work experience required.
The ideal candidate will maintain the highest standards for classroom instruction. Applies innovative teaching methods and demonstrates ability to work with students at all skill levels. Teaching duties will consist of preparing, instructing, and evaluating courses; seeking continuous improvement in teaching methodology and student‑centered learning. Some courses may require additional certification or licensure based on industry standards or accreditation requirements.
