Duties & Summary
Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Academic Services/Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, this role provides system administration, training, and technical support for the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). It also partners with faculty to explore and implement innovative technologies that promote student-centered teaching and learning. The LMS Administrator & Instructional Technologist is dedicated to the learning college concepts by developing programs and facilitating activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.
- Learning Management System Administrator:
Oversee daily operations of the Canvas LMS. Ensure secure integration with SIS, SSO, and third‑party tools in collaboration with IT and vendors. Develop training materials, maintain process records, generate usage and performance reports, and communicate system updates and best practices to stakeholders. - User Support:
Serve as the primary contact for faculty regarding LMS and instructional technology support. Collaborate with the IT Help Desk to resolve student issues requiring elevated access or specialized expertise. Escalate complex technical problems to IT offices or LMS vendors, ensuring clear communication and documentation. - Instructional Technology:
Research, evaluate, and recommend instructional technologies aligned with institutional goals, accessibility standards, and student-centered pedagogy. Collaborate with faculty. Design and deliver professional development workshops, webinars, and training materials on LMS use, instructional design, and technology integration. - Manage daily operations of the Canvas LMS, including user account provisioning, course creation, system configuration, and routine maintenance.
- Collaborate with Information Technology and LMS vendors to configure and maintain seamless integration between Canvas, the Student Information System (SIS), Single Sign-On (SSO), and third‑party tools, ensuring secure authentication, data integrity, and advanced troubleshooting.
- Research, install and manage Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) integrations and third‑party applications.
- Monitor system performance, apply updates, and manage LMS testing environments to verify new features and integrations.
- Develop and maintain training resources and documentation for faculty, staff, and students, including guides, tutorials, and FAQs to support effective LMS use.
- Generate and distribute reports on LMS usage, course activity, and system performance.
- Communicate system issues, updates, new features and best practices to faculty, staff, and students.
- Serve as primary faculty contact for instructional technology—providing support and training via email, phone, and consultations.
- Collaborate with IT Help Desk to address student LMS‑related issues requiring elevated permissions, ensuring timely resolution.
- Escalate complex technical issues to IT offices and external LMS partners, maintaining clear communication and thorough documentation.
- Route faculty/staff questions to appropriate campus contacts or offices.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging educational technologies aligned with student-centered pedagogy and institutional goals.
- Design and deliver professional development workshops, webinars, and training materials on using LMS, instructional design, and instructional technologies.
- Collaborate with faculty to design and develop instructional materials and courses reflecting student-centered learning methodologies, integrating instructional technologies, digital accessibility standards, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), assessment strategies, and course quality benchmarks.
- Collaborate with faculty to apply accessibility standards and teaching strategies that foster engagement and support success of diverse learners across disciplines.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required.…
