DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment.
- Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State driver's license without record of suspension or revocation in any State.
- Felony convictions and criminal histories are subject to disqualifications per TCOLE rules.
- U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to read and write the English language.
- Must be of good moral character and of temperate and industrious habits.
- Meet or exceed all minimum licensing standards and qualifications as set forth by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
- High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by a two-year community college degree or vocational school training in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice administration, public administration, or a related field; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Graduation from a TCOLE Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC), or Supplemental course as authorized by TCOLE.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
- Some skill in operating the tools and equipment listed below.
- Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
- Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to meet the special requirements listed below.
- Ability to learn the City's geography.
- Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State Driver’s License without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
- Ability to meet Department's physical standards.
- Must possess and maintain Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Basic Peace Officer License.
- Formal application and Personal History Statement.
- Written and physical agility test.
- Thorough background investigation.
- Oral interview.
- Chief's Interview.
- Physical and psychological examination.
- Final selection.
