Electrical Journeyman Summary

Mortenson is currently seeking an Electrical Journeyman that will provide skilled craftsmanship for maintenance and installation of electrical systems.

• Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
• Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety
• Install, repair, and maintain motors, transformers, generators, lights, appliances, circuits, wiring, and other electrical system equipment in compliance with codes, standards, and regulations
• Study plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs or installations
• Repair and maintain high voltage systems
• Organize work by receiving and studying work orders; gather tools and supplies
• Read prints, layout work, and install new service
• Replace faulty parts and components to repair electrical problems
• Conduct system tests and complete preventive maintenance requirements to keep systems operating
• Place orders to maintain supplies and inventory
• Maintain a safe work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with codes
• Participate in educational opportunities and read technical publications to update job knowledge
• Accomplish related results to support maintenance and organization missions
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
• Effectively work and build relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
• All other duties as assigned

• Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs.
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling over 50 lbs. may require assistance or equipment

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum two years of related experience
• Trade or technical school certification or diploma
• Apprentice aptitude test
• Union specific training
• Project specific or Mortenson training
• Current driver’s license
• Ability to speak and understand English (Spanish is a plus); some ability to read plans; emotional intelligence; ability to operate equipment such as table saws, radial arm saws, belt & disc sanders, drill presses, fall protection equipment, rigging, and form systems
• Strong teamwork orientation, positive attitude, professional customer service skills, detail orientation, active listening skills, and effective communication including openness to diverse input and feedback
• Repetitive hand, arm, and leg movements
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs.
