Estimator II

Estimator II is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial, residential, or industrial construction projects. This mid-level role involves analyzing project documents, identifying cost risks, soliciting subcontractor and supplier bids, and collaborating with project managers, architects, and engineers to ensure that estimates align with company goals and client expectations.

This has a 15 percent travel requirement. This is a hybrid/remote position.

Essential Functions

  • Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, and other documents to develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Quantify and price materials, labor, and equipment for assigned scopes of work.
  • Solicit and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Develop detailed breakdowns of project costs and prepare formal bid packages and proposals.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to understand project scope and conditions.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure constructability and accuracy of estimates.
  • Maintain and update historical cost data, unit pricing, and productivity metrics.
  • Assist in value engineering and cost-saving strategies.
  • Participate in handoff meetings and support project managers during the transition from estimating to execution.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, pricing changes, and construction methods.

Competencies

  • Skilled with Timberline Estimating software or similar.
  • Skilled in On-Screen Take Off or similar software.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically and creatively, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize, work well under stress, meet deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to constant change.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to assist and communicate with staff and clients.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Skilled in mathematical concepts.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Office products (i.e., Excel, Word, & Outlook).
  • Ability to pay attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field. Work experience can be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years' experience in construction estimating.
  • Proficiency in estimating software platforms.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with Alaska Native Corporations and knowledge of Small Business Administration's 8(a) program.
  • Experience working within a multiple entity organization.
  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE).

Work Environment

  • Position is primarily based in an office environment, with occasional exposure to varying noise levels that may require clear and auditable communication.
  • Position may involve working in conditions that require prolonged periods of sitting, frequent use of computers and office equipment and collaboration in shared work spaces.
  • Position will involve exposure to standard office equipment factors such as printer toner, paper dust, artificial lighting, and temperature variations due to air conditioning or heating systems.
  • Position requires close visual focus for tasks such as operating a computer, reviewing documents and performing detailed analytical work.

Physical Qualifications

  • Mobility: must be able to stoop, kneel, reach, walk, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Hearing: must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
