Job Title

This position provides clerical and customer service support for parks and recreation programs and services.

Examples Of Duties

Major duties include:

  • Collecting fees, check passes, and punching cards at Pier, Pool, and Senior Center.
  • Counting monies and making daily deposit drops; completing receipt book.
  • Monitoring activities at all assigned locations.
  • Assisting customers with questions and program information.
  • Answering telephone, providing information, and taking messages.
  • Maintaining a clean and tidy work area.
  • Preparing and selling concessions, assisting with tracking inventory.
  • Supervising youth and adult sports league games and tournaments.
  • Assisting in maintaining sports equipment inventory.
  • Assisting in the selection of teams.
  • Supervising special events.
  • Collecting trash and cleaning restrooms.
  • Assisting in maintaining sports fields.
  • Turning lights on and off at sports facilities.
  • Preparing buildings for rental events.
  • Assisting with summer camps, programs, activities, swim lessons, etc. and working in concessions.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Must be at least 14 years of age at the time of employment. No education or experience is necessary.
  • Depending upon assignment, may be required to obtain a Florida Food Handler's license within the first week of hiring.
  • Depending upon assignment, current CPR, AED and/or First Aid certifications may be required at the time of employment.
  • Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.

  • Balancing cashiering transactions, preparing cash deposits, and processing refunds.
  • Providing quality customer service.
  • Reading, interpreting, and applying operating policies and procedures.
  • Working evenings, weekends, and holidays, and/or flexible schedules.

General expectations include:

Supervisory controls are provided by the Parks and Recreation Facilities Supervisor, the Athletic Supervisor, Aquatics Specialist or designee, who assigns work in terms of detailed and specific instructions. The supervisor spot-checks work in progress and upon completion for accuracy, adequacy, and adherence to instructions and established guidelines.

Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures, which are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

The work consists of related clerical and customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.

The purpose of this position is to provide customer service support for department programs and services. Successful performance contributes to the delivery of quality services to the general public.

Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, and the general public, to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.

The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, walking, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color. The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors.

Supervisory and management responsibility is none.
