Position OverviewISPA Technology is seeking a Systems Administrator specializing in RHEL 8/9 and VMware vSphere to join our Patch Management team. The candidate must demonstrate a basic understanding of how RHEL interacts with DoD hardware and how to maintain it. This role is critical in ensuring the security and stability of our cross‑platform environment. You will be responsible for deploying updates, automating workflows via scripting, and troubleshooting complex integration issues between Linux and Windows systems.
Key Responsibilities- Patch Execution & Troubleshooting:
Manage the full lifecycle of patching for Linux servers, including troubleshooting configuration files and resolving system‑level dependencies. - Scripting & Automation:
Develop, maintain, and optimize scripts to automate repetitive patching tasks and system health checks. - Cross‑Platform Integration:
Diagnose and resolve interoperability issues where Linux and Windows systems interact (e.g., authentication, file sharing, or monitoring). - Security Tooling:
Monitor and remediate vulnerabilities identified by ACAS, and configure and utilize Splunk commands to assist the cyber team with log analysis and system auditing. - Technical Documentation:
Author clear, concise "README" files and technical guides to ensure scripts and processes are repeatable by the broader team.
- RHEL Expertise:
Minimum 3‑5 years of experience managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). This includes package management via yum or dnf, kernel tuning, troubleshooting boot issues post‑patching, and practical experience with Splunk for troubleshooting and ACAS (Nessus) for vulnerability management. - Scripting Proficiency:
Intermediate‑level experience in Red Hat, Bash, Python, Ansible, and some Power Shell script. Ability to create original scripts, not just edit existing ones. - VMware Infrastructure:
Proficiency with vSphere/ESXi 7.0+. Ability to manage snapshots (crucial for rollback plans) and resource pools during maintenance windows. - System Configuration:
Hands‑on experience modifying and troubleshooting system configuration files (e.g., SSH, SSSD, Cron, YUM/DNF configs) including familiarity with Windows Server/Client environments and an understanding of how they communicate with Linux. - Communication:
Technical writing skills with a focus on making complex technical procedures easy to follow for end users. - COMPTIA Security+ Certification required.
