Position Summary:
The Controller is a strategic finance leader responsible for overseeing all accounting, financial reporting, cash management, job costing, and operational finance functions for a heavy civil construction organization. This role partners closely with executive leadership and operations to drive financial performance, improve processes, manage risk, and support continued growth.
- Lead and develop the accounting and finance team.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership.
- Drive continuous improvement, accountability, and financial discipline across the organization.
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Deliver executive reporting packages including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, WIP schedules, and job cost analysis.
- Manage rolling cash forecasts and monitor key financial performance indicators.
- Improve accounting processes, controls, and financial workflows.
- Optimize Vista by Viewpoint configuration, reporting, and integrations with project management systems.
- Lead technology initiatives that improve financial visibility and operational efficiency.
- Oversee job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition (ASC 606).
- Manage cost-to-complete analysis, backlog reporting, change order tracking, and project profitability reviews.
- Partner with project managers and operations leadership to identify risks and improve project performance.
- Support bonding capacity through financial reporting and surety relationships.
- Oversee equipment costing, utilization reporting, burden rates, depreciation, and owned-versus-rented asset analysis.
- Ensure accurate fleet and equipment costs are reflected in project reporting.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, contractor licensing requirements, certified payroll, and contractual obligations.
- Oversee AP, AR, payroll, subcontractor compliance, lien waivers, and insurance documentation.
- Coordinate audits, tax filings, and financial reviews with external CPA firms.
- 7+ years of accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibility
- Prior experience with heavy civil, marine, infrastructure, or similar construction industry
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- CPA, CMA, or CCIFP certification preferred.
- Vista by Viewpoint implementation experience
