Working Title:
OPS DENTAL HYGIENIST -
This position will serve in the Florida Department of Health in Bay County (DOH Bay) Dental Bus Program to provide preventative dental services to children including oral health assessments, oral hygiene instructions, sealants, and fluoride. This is a highly responsible, professional position that requires effective communication with school principals and community organizations, oral health education with children, data entry, entering clinical services into Eaglesoft and HMS, knowledge of dental equipment, and ability to track inventory.
This position requires travel in Bay and Gulf Counties.
Provide preventative dental services; prepare and teach dental presentations in schools; provides oral assessments; oral hygiene instructions, sealants, and fluoride treatments; provide summary of services for FLOSS survey; case management of children with urgent needs and increase referral to dental homes for children in need of services; assists with preparing orders and inventory control for Dental Bus Program; maintain records, enter clinical and billing services into Eaglesoft and HMS;
travel to school and other locations on a regular basis; ability to work in fixed dental clinic, as needed.
Attend and participate in staff development, such as team/staff meetings and in-service training/continuing education, participates in disaster-related duties as directed, maintains timely submission of Employee Activity Report and timesheets, provides backup support to other dental staff, as needed, and other duties assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of dental hygiene principles, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of dental terminology.
- Skill in operating dental instruments and equipment.
- Ability to use a personal computer and standard software applications.
- Ability to use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
- Ability to educate patients on dental care techniques.
- Ability to operate general office equipment.
- Ability to follow established office procedures and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with parents, students, community members, school administrators, school health staff, and teachers.
- Ability to travel, work a flexible schedule, and work independently and efficiently to meet program goals and objectives.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Must be willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
- Must have a Registered Dental Hygienist license in accordance with F.S. 466.
- Must have a Dental Radiography certificate.
- Must have experience applying preventative sealants.
- Must have experience working with children.
- Experience working in a school-based sealant program
- Experience working with the FLOSS program
