Overview

Responsibilities- Under direction, manage the work of a group of survey parties involved in a wide variety of survey work as defined in the Professional Land Surveyor's Act.
- Direct a field survey party in more difficult land surveying work including hydrographic, geodetic, boundary, and construction surveying.
- Plan procedures to improve survey plans and supervise the preparation of field layout data.
- Direct the office staff in the preparation and/or checking of tract maps, parcel maps, and engineering improvement plans.
- Monitor GPS real-time networks; research deeds, maps and records for descriptions; review control maps and reports.
- Perform complex survey computations and adjustments; instruct assigned personnel in safe work practices and ensure work areas comply with California Industrial Safety orders.
- Operate computer-aided design and other surveying software; review software and prepare procedures manual as needed.
- May assume duties of division/section head in the absence of the head; perform other related duties as required.

Current registration as a licensed Land Surveyor in the State of California (proof required). - Option B:
Current registration as a Civil Engineer authorized to practice land surveying in the State of California (proof required). - Proof of required documents (such as degree or transcripts) must be uploaded to the online application at the time of filing. Documents must contain identifying information. Degrees must indicate field of study; transcripts must indicate field of study and degree conferred date. Applicants with degrees from colleges or universities outside the United States must attach proof of educational equivalence at the time of filing.
EXAMINATION WEIGHTS:
Application and Supplemental Application — Qualifying. Screening is based on the application and required supplemental application. This selection is continuous and non-competitive, evaluated on training, experience, education, or certification. Qualified applicants will be placed on an eligible list. Veterans’ credit will place applicants on the eligible list first, then by filing order. Eligible lists may be established periodically and may expire six months from the effective date.
Applicants may apply only once during a four-month period. Qualified candidates with applications received by Friday, July 11 will be placed on Test #01. If revisions are necessary, affected persons will be notified.
