Systems Administrator

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Administrator to support a technology‑driven program within a federal defense environment. This position is available on‑site in Rome, New York. This is a direct‑hire opportunity supporting a mission focused on secure systems operations and infrastructure modernization.

The Systems Administrator will manage, maintain, and optimize enterprise systems while supporting users, infrastructure, and security requirements across a dynamic technical environment. This role requires strong operating system expertise, networking fundamentals, virtualization experience, and scripting capability.

• Administer and maintain Windows and/or Linux operating systems across enterprise environments.
• Manage and troubleshoot system performance, availability, and configuration issues.
• Implement and support core networking services including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies.
• Support virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper‑V.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using Power Shell, Bash, or Python.
• Collaborate with technical teams to ensure secure, stable, and efficient system operations.
• Provide system support in both independent and team‑based environments.

• 3+ years of professional system administration experience.
• Strong understanding of Windows or Linux operating systems.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
• Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper‑V.
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, related field, or equivalent experience.
• Security+, SecurityX, CASP, or DoD 8140 IAT Level II‑equivalent certification.
• Active Secret Clearance (must be current).

• Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 depending on experience
