Job Description

Summary/Objective

Perform girth welding on the inside diameter of pipe for production.

Essential Functions

The following essential functions are to be performed in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) established for this position and will be performed on a continuing basis during the work shift.

  • Complete related checklists every shift.
  • Record data in the I5 system.
  • Perform set up tasks and checks including but not limited to: ensure correct wire will be used; ensure welding wire and pointer are aligned with the center of the weld seam bevel.
  • Ensure the welding parameters are set properly to begin welding process.
  • Operate the roll lines to position pipe properly. Mark weld’s starting position with soapstone.
  • Perform  process per SOP.
  • Ensure the pipe has maintained the weld’s interpass temperature of 250
  • Ensure all functions are working properly. Ensure proper weld alignment.
  • Change wire as needed. Maintain an adequate supply of wire.
  • Remove slag from weld seam bevel and boom support wheels.
  • Assist in all clamp changeovers.
  • Perform TPEM operator tasks.
  • Perform area housekeeping tasks
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and vibration on the production floor. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions, including high and low temperatures. The employee may have exposure to chemicals, slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and the potential of electrical shock.

    The noise level in the work environment can be loud and subject to the company’s hearing conservation program requirements. This position works in an environment in which safety demands constant attention; and requires safety equipment such as hardhats, safety glasses, earplugs and steel toe shoes.

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, sit, stand and walk, reach with hands and arms, use hands to grasp or feel; and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb or balance. The employee may lift items up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work may span during the week from Monday through Saturday, with the schedule determined by the supervisor. Rotating evening or weekend shift work may be required, based on operational need.
