Job Description

Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – Tyndall AFB, Panama City, Florida – PART‑TIME*

Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is actively seeking a PART‑TIME Certified Welding Inspector to join our Professional Services Industries Inc. (Intertek‑PSI) team supporting construction projects at Tyndall AFB. This role provides a versatile career opportunity in the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry.

What are we looking for?

The CWI will employ knowledge and training of welding processes, test methods, discontinuities, materials, qualifications, and standards to ensure that weldments and weld‑related activities comply with all applicable quality and safety criteria. The ideal candidate will be AWS certified, available to learn construction materials testing, and able to access a military base. This is an ongoing project role at Tyndall AFB, not a short‑term turnaround or shutdown assignment.

Part‑time, on‑call / as needed, 15‑20 hours per week.

Salary & Benefits

What you’ll do
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and regulations
  • Test and inspect structural steel during erection on general building and pipeline sites, and occasional plant inspections
  • Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings
  • Perform visual inspections on welded products in progress and completed jobs
  • Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, etc.
  • Record results of tests and welding inspections
  • Able to issue and follow up on non‑conformances until close out
  • Plan and conduct analysis, inspection, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned products or components
  • Review welded products or components and advise on acceptance or rejection
  • Document data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures
  • Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and recommend process improvements to management
  • Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications
  • Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers
  • Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (e.g., soil, concrete) and provide assessment of data through reporting
  • Operate a calculator to compute mathematical test results
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal and others’ safety at work
Minimum Requirements & Certifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification with D1.1 experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of CWI experience
  • Clean background required to access a military base
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret tolerances
  • Computer skills:
    Microsoft Windows and Office applications
  • Ability to receive, understand, and execute written and verbal directions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and with others
  • Availability to work off‑shifts and overtime as needed
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
Preferred Requirements and Qualifications
  • Technical degree in welding
  • ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Certification & ICC Structural Welding Certification preferred
  • Previous construction materials testing experience preferred*
  • Experience with CMT provides opportunity to transition into a full‑time role
