The Quality Engineer plays a key role in supporting manufacturing operations and quality systems while ensuring products meet customer specifications and technical standards. This position sits within the Technical Services group and works closely with customers, operations, quality control, and quality assurance teams to drive data-based decisions, improve processes, and maintain compliance. Responsibilities
+ Collaborate with manufacturing operations, quality control, and quality assurance teams to ensure products meet customer specifications and internal quality standards.
+ Engage directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand technical requirements and translate them into practical, actionable instructions for production and quality teams.
+ Work within established quality systems to monitor performance, identify issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
+ Use data-driven decision-making to analyze quality performance, identify trends, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
+ Lead or participate in problem-solving activities and root cause analysis to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
+ Interpret and apply customer specifications, technical standards, and material requirements to manufacturing processes and quality controls.
+ Support compliance with relevant quality requirements, including documentation, audits, and adherence to technical standards.
+ Assist in optimizing processes to improve product quality, consistency, and manufacturability.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Technical Services, operations, and quality functions to support key business initiatives and product improvement projects.
+ Contribute to supplier quality activities by helping evaluate material performance and addressing supplier-related quality concerns when needed.
+ Develop growing expertise in materials engineering, metallurgy, and quality engineering practices to support long-term technical and leadership development.
+ Act as a proactive, self-directed contributor who learns the business and manufacturing processes to provide informed, practical quality guidance.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Materials Science or Metallurgical Engineering strongly preferred.
+ Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical requirements and specifications into clear, practical instructions.
+ Ability to read, interpret, and work with customer specifications and technical standards.
+ Demonstrated problem-solving capability, including structured root cause analysis.
+ Self-starter mentality with a strong willingness to learn the business, products, and manufacturing processes.
+ Foundational knowledge of materials engineering, metallurgy, or materials science.
+ Experience or training in quality engineering or quality assurance concepts.
+ Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including operations, quality control, and quality assurance.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Steel manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.
+ Metallurgy background or practical exposure to metallurgical processes.
+ Supplier quality experience, including working with external material or component suppliers.
+ Exposure to manufacturing environments where technical specifications drive production processes.
+
Experience with audits or participation in quality system assessments.
+ Familiarity with data-driven decision-making and use of quality data to support improvements.
+ background as a Material Science Engineer, Metallurgical Engineer, or Quality Engineer within steel manufacturing is highly relevant.
+ Candidates with supplier quality backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
