Position: HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to perform the duties of a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN without more than normal supervision. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including:

  • 1) Troubleshooting and replacing circuit boards in the controls of equipment such as electronic reclosers and ether similar devices.
  • 2) hot-line tools and protective equipment such as hot-sticks, wire tongs, wire tong supports, insulated tension links, tie sticks, insulated hoods/covers and tools, and rubber gloves, sleeves, and insulating blankets.
  • 3) Utilizing knowledge and skills in electrical principles, procedures, materials, and safety standards governing electrical systems over 600 volts.
  • 4) Planning, carrying-out, troubleshooting and repairing, high voltage generating, controlling, and distribution systems, such as repairing switch gear, installing and hooking up transfo1mers, locating defects in cables, or selecting materials to make installations or repairs.
  • 5) Diagnosing and determining corrective actions for electric power-controlling equipment such as switch gear, transformer banks, and circuit breakers in substations and power-generating facilities.
