• Operates ten-wheel trucks; operates tractor with front-end loader and backhoe.
• Picks up, spots, and places materials where indicated by supervisor.
• Operates truck carrying fuel, lubricants and lubricating equipment, performs routine field lubrication of light, medium, and heavy rolling stock and equipment.
• Operates roller in patching County roads.
• Performs daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use; performs routine service and maintenance.
• Operates a simple flatbed or dump truck, or a variety of minor powered machinery and equipment; and participates generally in the laboring work of the crew as workload demands, as needed.
• The employer may add to or change duties at any time and as determined by the County and its leaders to best ensure that the public is served through the work of the Department.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent; AND Two (2) years’ experience in the operation and routine maintenance of moderately heavy construction and automotive equipment.
• Final decision of selection for this job will be based on applicant's ability to physically operate, drive and perform the illustrated tasks described herein.
• A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

• Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment with a driving record acceptable to the County Driving Policy and insurance program.

• Knowledge of the operating and repair characteristics of medium and heavy automotive and similar public works equipment.
• Knowledge of the component parts, operating principles and maintenance needs of medium and heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the operation of medium and heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and other regulations governing the operation of equipment on construction activities.
• Skill in the operation of moderately complex construction and transportation equipment.
• Knowledge of project management and organizational skills.
• Ability to have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work and maintain reliable full-time attendance.
• Ability to comprehend, speak, and read the English language.
• Ability to have and maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public.
• Ability to obtain necessary information and to complete accurate accident and other reports.
• Ability to operate equipment over rough terrain and to perform manual labor occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to service various types of relatively heavy equipment and to make minor running repairs.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability operate equipment/vehicle with a manual transmission.

Work is primarily performed outdoors and requires moderate to extreme exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, varying and adverse weather; work in water, brush and ditches, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, odors or dust). This position requires moderate exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g. exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment) This position often requires the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may include completing and successfully passing medical evaluations or clearances.

Bending/stooping, sitting, standing, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement of firm grasping and fine manipulation, repetitive motions, depth perception, balancing, squatting, working s position requires frequent lifting and carrying of 10-25lbs, and up to 100lbs on occasion.

Not Eligible for Remote Work
- This position is assigned to a county worksite. Due to the non-portable nature of the essential functions of this position, this position is not eligible for telework.
