Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving product flow and throughput, procuring proper equipment and tooling, designing fixtures and dies, and assisting in the development and maintenance of a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program.
Main Duties/Responsibilities- Ensure a safe working environment is maintained at all times.
- Lead cross-functional teams to improve product flow and increase throughput by evaluating plant layout and manufacturing processes.
- Participate in developing and maintaining a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program that covers all facilities and equipment.
- Prepare specifications, evaluate supplier quotations, and develop requisitions for equipment.
- Design and/or procure the necessary tooling, fixtures, and dies.
- Maintain Equipment Inventory list and prepare & update anticipated Capital Expenditure list for all facilities.
- Periodically perform time studies and payback analyses.
- Develop shipping drawings and sketches for rail and some truck shipments.
- In concert with the Maintenance Foreman, coordinate with outside contractors performing work on facilities or equipment.
- Work closely with maintenance and plant personnel to resolve equipment and facility problems in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with utility suppliers, obtain competitive pricing, and review utility usage and billing information.
- Review drawings and schematics for major equipment repairs.
- Review tax appraisals and leases.
- Perform human resource functions such as: interviewing and hiring, onboarding, performance action plans and feedback, salary administration activities, and disciplinary action.
- Participate in project and production meetings to ensure manufacturing engineering projects are progressing as planned to support production schedules.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, a related field or equivalent experience required
- Three or more years of Manufacturing Engineering experience required
- Three or more years of Manufacturing Engineering experience in a heavy metal fabrication industry preferred
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong mechanical abilities
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Good time management skills
- Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
- Effective troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Strong knowledge of plant operations
- Good understanding of forming, welding, machining, and fabricating
- Knowledge of PCs and Microsoft Office software
- AutoCAD experience preferred
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing Principles and Tools preferred
