Role DescriptionThe Assistant Finance Director supports the Finance Director in managing the county’s financial operations by performing accounting, reporting, budgeting, and administrative duties. This position ensures accurate financial records, supports internal controls, assists with audits and budget preparation, and provides financial guidance to departments.
Duties and Responsibilities Financial Operations & Accounting- Assign appropriate cost codes to invoices, deposits, journal entries, and other financial transactions.
- Prepare periodic and recurring journal entries.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and account reconciliations.
- Monitor financial activity and transactions across multiple departments.
- Maintain cost accounting records for capital improvement projects, including supporting documentation.
- Set up and maintain encumbrances and related tracking files.
- Assist in overseeing the general ledger and ensuring accuracy of financial data.
- Create, maintain, and analyze various financial and management reports.
- Analyze monthly VISA purchases and departmental expenditures.
- Prepare sales tax remittance vouchers.
- Maintain and record airport fuel sales and related reporting.
- Assist with internal audit procedures.
- Support year-end closing processes.
- Assist with year-end external audit preparation and documentation.
- Maintain records of insured vehicles, equipment, and related insurance documentation.
- Assist with annual insurance policy renewals.
- Assist with fixed asset maintenance and oversight of asset management systems.
- Maintain financial records for the fire district.
- Monitor county fiscal records and accounting system activity.
- Write grant applications and prepare supporting documentation.
- Administer grants, including compliance, reporting, and tracking requirements.
- Assist with the preparation, analysis, and development of the annual budget.
- Assist in the creation of annual budget book and other related publications.
- Assist in the creation, review, and implementation of accounting and financial policies and procedures.
- Respond to financial inquiries from departments and provide necessary support.
- Collaborate with staff to resolve financial, accounting, and reporting issues.
- Serve as the backup to the Finance Director during absences.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Director.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Two-year college degree in accounting, business, or finance required; four-year degree preferred
- One to three years of accounting experience required
- Valid driver’s license required
100% paid medical, dental, vision insurance for employee only coverage, 80% paid insurance for family coverage.
