Inside Sales Representative - Independent Insurance Agency Job Overview
You want to sell insurance. You do not want to spend your day dialing strangers off a purchased list.
At Smith Davis Insurance, the phone rings. Referrals come in. People find us online and raise their hand. And we have 95 years of former clients sitting in our system who already know our name.
Your job is to turn all of that into business.
You also get to say yes more often than you could anywhere else, because we are independent. When one carrier comes back high, you do not lose the deal. You shop it. That difference alone is worth a look if you have spent the last few years selling one company's product at one company's price.
WHY THIS SEAT EXISTSTwo reasons.
First, we are generating more qualified opportunities than our current team can work well. Marketing is producing leads. Referral partners are sending business. Existing clients are asking about coverage they do not have. Some of that falls through the cracks today, and every one of those is revenue we already paid for.
Second, we have a list of people who used to be clients and are not anymore. Nobody is calling them. That is a mistake, and we are fixing it.
PART OF THIS JOB IS WINNING BACK THE ONES WHO GOT AWAYOver 95 years, a lot of people have been Smith Davis clients and are not today. Some left over price. Some left because a captive agent was a family friend or a brother-in-law. Some left because we made a mistake years ago and never got a chance to make it right.
You are going to call them.
This is not cold calling. These people know our name. They have a file. And in a lot of cases the reason they left no longer applies, because rates moved, because we picked up a carrier we did not have then, or because whatever went sideways got fixed a long time ago.
It takes a specific kind of person to make those calls well. You have to be able to hear "you guys dropped the ball on my claim back in 2019" without getting defensive, own it, and then ask for another shot anyway. If that sounds like a challenge you would enjoy rather than dread, this is a rare seat. Most agencies never work this list at all.
WHATSUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
First 30 days: licensed and appointed, trained on our carriers and systems, quoting personal lines independently, first win-back calls made.
First 90 days: hitting activity, quote, and win-back conversation targets. Closing at a measurable rate. Running your own pipeline without being chased for updates.
First 12 months: consistently hitting your monthly new business goal, with a recaptured account count, an account rounding ratio, and a close rate you would be proud to put on a resume.
We will tell you exactly what those numbers are before you accept the job. You will see your scoreboard every week. If you are the kind of person who wants to know where you stand, you will like it here.
WHO THRIVES IN THIS SEATYou are competitive with yourself. You track your own numbers even when nobody asks.
You do not take rejection personally, and you can tell the difference between a no about a price and a no about you.
You can hear criticism of our agency without getting defensive or piling on. Own it, fix it, move forward.
You follow up. Then you follow up again. Most sales in this business are lost to silence, not to price.
You are organized enough to run twenty live opportunities at once without dropping one.
You would rather have a real conversation than read a script.
You want structure and a clear scoreboard, not vague direction.
THIS IS PROBABLY NOT THE RIGHT JOB FOR YOU IFYou want a salary with no performance expectations attached.
You dislike being on the phone.
You only want to talk to people who are already excited to hear from you.
You get rattled when someone tells you about their bad experience.
You want to work fully remote from day one.
You would rather service existing accounts than win new ones.
You need someone to tell you what to do every morning.
We would rather you figure that out now than four months in.
COMPENSATIONBase salary of $40,000 to $50,000 depending on experience and licensing, plus commission on new business and an additional bonus on every recaptured former client.
Realistic first year total compensation: $50,000 to $75,000.
There is no cap. We pay more on win-backs than on inbound leads, because the work is harder
