Inspector, Manufacturing ​/ Production, Manufacturing & Industrial Operations

Overview

We are looking for hard-working, reliable and safety minded individuals to join our team as an Inspector. As an Inspector you will be the first point of contact with our customers as they bring scrap materials into the yard. Your primary responsibilities will be inspecting and documenting customer loads and directing traffic to the proper collection site within the yard.

This position will work outside in varying weather conditions, and SA Recycling strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

• Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking
• Communicate to customers the material grading process when the customer does not know or understand
• Control traffic in the yard. Use signals and verbal commands to direct traffic
• Communicate with office and truck drivers to determine commodity drop-off location
• Work independently in the yard
• Work with customers to satisfy their needs and assist them when problems arise
• Collaborate with other employees in the scrap metal yard to ensure a safe working environment
• Clean up work area at the end of shift
• Keep work areas neat and orderly
• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential job functions
• Organize materials to optimize space
• Dispose of various waste materials in the appropriate manner
• Ensure cleanup is completed and conduct inspections accordingly
• Maintain effective housekeeping in the workplace for safety and hygiene
• Perform all other duties as assigned

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test
• Must pass a background check
• Preferred – high school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable
• Ability to communicate with others effectively; understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as the job demands
• Previous experience purchasing metal is a plus

Work Environment:
Scrap metal recycling and shredder yard

Equipment & Tools:
Wire cutters, mechanical tools

Physical Demand Level: Moderate

Work Capacity:
Lifting and carrying 35 lb loads, head turning, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders and standing for long periods

Sensory Demands:
Hearing, vision, touch, smell and taste

Hand Movements:
Repetitive motions, gripping
