Dispatcher Entry Level (B)
Position ObjectiveEmployees in this position are responsible for supporting routine dispatching functions within the shipping activities of the department, while developing the knowledge and skills necessary to perform full dispatcher duties. Such functions include processing shipping needs from customers, data entry into the Transportation Management System, and supporting communication with drivers and customers under the guidance of experienced dispatch personnel. Employees will assist in activities related to the pick-up of goods, the transit of goods, and the delivery of goods, while learning company procedures, transportation regulations, and dispatch operations.
Employees in this position will dispatch workers, work crews, equipment, or service vehicles for conveyance of materials, freight, or passengers, or for normal installation, service, or emergency repairs rendered outside the place of business. This position serves as a developmental role designed to prepare employees for advancement into Dispatcher position.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Basic PC skills.
- Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
- Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.
- Assists with preparing daily work and running schedules.
- Determine types or amounts of equipment, vehicles, materials, or personnel required according to work orders or specifications.
- Assists with ordering supplies and equipment, and issues them to personnel as directed.
- Monitors personnel and/or equipment locations and utilization to coordinate services and schedules.
- Records and maintains files and records of customer requests, work or services performed, charges, expenses, inventory, and other dispatch information.
- Confers with customers to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment.
- Knowledge of company transportation policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Performs other administrative and operational support duties as assigned.
- Generally, inside conditions apply but parking lot safety should be in play always.
