Drill Operator

Basic Purpose and Objective:
Drill Operator operates drill machines for the manufacture of all types of fasteners.

• Operate up to two drill machines to produce machined parts according to blueprints, specifications and/or special instructions.
• Start and operate machine to detect out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls and machine as required.
• Operate machine on trial run to check accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
• Check parts for conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers, gauges and perform SPC.
• Recognize and remedy minor machine malfunctioning or cutting action of tools; report discrepancies to department lead and/or supervisor for assistance.
• Identify, disassemble, and determine corrective action required to repair work or broken parts.
• Check tooling and rework as needed to keep machine running.
• Lay out parts for successive and continuous machining operations.
• Be able to troubleshoot cutters and fingers; tooling necessary for setup and operation.
• Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards by following blueprints or work instructions.
• Read blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerance, number, or parts to be checked.
• Perform record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follow safety regulations.
• Other duties may be assigned.

• Read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings.
• Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
