Reports To: President & CEO, Bergen New Bridge Medical Center;
Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School

Faculty Appointment: Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, coterminous appointment

Compensation: Competitive; commensurate with experience

Pay Range: $428,600-$550,000

Position Overview

The Chief Medical Officer serves as the senior clinical leader of the organization, responsible for medical staff affairs, clinical quality and safety, system performance, and physician alignment. The CMO will devote 100% of their time to administrative leadership at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center and will play a central role in shaping clinical strategy and driving operational excellence across the hospital.

Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Operations

  • Provide oversight of patient safety, quality, infection control, risk management, case management, and patient experience.
  • Lead daily clinical operations in partnership with hospital executives.
  • Identify clinical system issues and lead the development of effective improvement plans.

Medical Staff Affairs

  • Oversee peer review and credentialing processes.
  • Address medical staff quality, safety, service, and behavioral issues in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate Medical Directors and ensure accountability and performance.
  • Work with departments to establish standards of care.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Compliance Officers on physician-related regulatory matters.
  • Partner with HIM and medical staff on coding, documentation, and diagnosis-related quality metrics.

Strategic & Organizational Leadership

  • Serve as a key advisor to the President & CEO and a member of the executive leadership team.
  • Foster physician engagement and alignment across specialties.
  • Oversee patient throughput, including LOS management and DRG performance initiatives.
  • Support the implementation and optimization of the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Participate in and potentially chair the Ethics Committee.

Qualifications

Required

  • MD or DO with active New Jersey medical license
  • Board certification in primary medical specialty
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in an acute care or academic medical setting
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience in public hospitals, complex health systems, or academic medical centers
