Position Summary
Reporting to and functioning under the general supervision of the Supervisor, the Ultrasound Technologist prepares for and operates an ultrasound scanning unit following specific ACR standards, departmental protocols and physician orders. They produce detailed images of patients' anatomy for diagnostic information, assist patients onto a stretcher, verify patient identification prior to the scan, select patients from the worklist, ensure the exam is archived on the PACS and completed in ITS, and maintain facilities in proper order.
They keep abreast of all new ultrasound technology.
Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations ranging from routine OB/Gyn, abdomen, small body parts, intra‑cavity and color Doppler, and various invasive procedures. Operate sensitive equipment, conduct exams accurately, and manage patient interactions efficiently. Able to function independently and in stressful situations, responding positively to changes in the work environment and patient needs.
Education and CertificationCompletion from an accredited ultrasound program and registration with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association is required.
Experience and SkillsRegistered ultrasound technologist with one to two years of experience. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and vascular systems; proficiency with ARDMS or CCI. Physical dexterity to operate sensitive equipment, ability to perform a variety of ultrasound exams, and good manual and finger dexterity, hand‑eye coordination. Strong interpersonal interaction and communication skills (oral, written, presentation). Ability to perform tasks accurately with attention to detail, manage time, set priorities, and respond quickly to emergency situations.
Physicaland Cognitive Requirements
Full range of body motion: physically assisting patients, stretching, bending, lifting, sitting, kneeling, stooping, standing, walking, pushing, pulling. Requires manual and finger dexterity, hand‑eye coordination, and constant talking, writing, and listening in English. Must possess cognitive skills to use analytical and critical thinking, problem‑solve, and handle stressful situations.
