The Ultrasound Technician, Maternal-Fetal Medicine assists medical personnel in diagnosing anatomical abnormalities using high frequency sound waves.

Responsibilities
  • Perform procedures according to departmental format, completing exams in allotted time.
  • Perform required daily clerical duties, including use of ASOBGYN reporting system, Epic patient scheduling, and other medical center computer systems.
  • Perform portable ultrasound examinations when necessary.
  • Perform complex diagnostic ultrasound tasks to detect anatomical abnormalities, including masses, abscesses, stones; assist physicians with biopsy, deep abdominal studies, and color-flow ultrasound.
  • Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies, instruments and equipment.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures, explain procedures, and position for each view.
  • Evaluate technical quality of images and obtain representative images of pathogenic conditions under standard procedures.
  • Maintain ultrasound records, archive, de-archive data, and record numerical readings on patient charts.
  • Calibrate, clean, and perform routine maintenance on equipment; sterilize instruments and replenish supplies.
  • Provide technical assistance and instruction to students, new employees, medical residents, and medical students.
  • Identify patient population needs and modify and deliver care accordingly, communicating with patients and caregivers at appropriate levels.
  • Adhere to the standards identified in the medical center's organizational competencies.
Essential Position Specific Functions
  • Perform anatomy and physiology exams of fetuses at all gestational ages, including Level II scans, 3D scans, detailed fetal cardiac anatomy scans, transvaginal scans, Doppler BPP, growth and nuchal translucency studies.
  • Assist in procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villi sampling, and fetal reductions.
  • Perform general obstetric ultrasound examinations.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved ultrasound school.
  • 2 years of allied health/college training.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in OB/GYN ultrasound.
  • Knowledge of all ultrasound equipment and operation of each control.
  • Understanding of equipment and computer systems as well as equipment service procedures.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of safety, infection, and disaster policy and procedures; ability to implement patient care during emergencies.
  • Ability to cover weekends on a rotation basis (roughly once every six weeks).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge to aid in invasive fetal procedures within the MFM specialty.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of clinical experience in MFM ultrasound.
Licenses and Certifications Required
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certification.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred
  • Nuchal translucency certification.

The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes only and is not a guarantee of a specific offer. Compensation is benchmarked against market data and takes into account experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations. Certain positions may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses or commissions, as well as shift differentials for evening, night or weekend shifts.

In addition to full-time and part-time roles, HMH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits. Minimum hourly rate is $46.64.
