Responsibilities
  • Serve as a recovery ambassador by maintaining an active, effective personal recovery program and high ethical standards.
  • Connect with and support peer clients by providing empathy and inviting them to connect with services.
  • Explain and demonstrate how center services and activities correlate to recovery, quality of life, and relationships.
  • Treat every client with respect and tailor solutions to individual needs based on training.
  • Run recovery meetings on BNBMC substance use units; educate patients about center offerings and benefits.
  • Staff the center for phones during open hours.
  • Organize and host social activities in the center or in the community.
  • Reach out to disengaged clients to invite them back to center activities and recovery.
  • With appropriate releases, communicate with family members and significant others as indicated.
  • Work within the Bergen, Hudson, Passaic, and Essex County area, including high-risk neighborhoods, to reach substance-using adults.
  • Conduct individualized and group meetings; facilitate non-clinical activities that engage, educate, and support clients; tailor recovery groups to client needs.
  • Teach and model the value of each individual’s recovery experience, including coping techniques and self-help strategies.
  • Assist clients with community integration and connections to recovery supports.
  • Comply with HIPAA and relevant grant funding requirements.
  • Attend team meetings to report and review program progress.
  • Assist in collecting outcome data and provide reports as instructed by program coordinators.
  • Deliver customer service with respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, and a helpful attitude; respond timely and professionally.
  • Maintain departmental policies, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards; identify gaps and contribute to policy development as needed.
  • Adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and align with Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Other Duties: Perform other related duties as required.
Position Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of addictions.
  • At least two years of personal substance use recovery.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
Salary and Benefits

Recovery Specialist is $22.50 per hour;
Certified Recovery Specialist is $25 per hour. We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans. We prioritize work-life balance with generous vacation days, personal time, sick leave, and nine paid holidays. We support ongoing development with tuition reimbursement and continuing education programs.
