Responsibilities- Implement all aspects of system requirements, including policy and procedure documentation and test plans; manage the development and installation of software upgrades from evaluation through acceptance; oversee automated systems installations; evaluate software and make recommendations regarding software upgrades and new modules.
- Assess reporting needs (operational, management, regulatory) and ensure report generation needs of the department are met; prepare test plans for system or software upgrades; coordinate and execute testing; prepare environments; act as liaison with vendors and IT teams; participate in integration of network configurations and system servers to meet system and disaster recovery requirements defined by the laboratory.
- Act as project manager for installation and maintenance of equipment and identification of functional capabilities of specialized software applications.
- Assist with the implementation of Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Maintain required documentation to conform to College of American Pathology (CAP) regulatory standards; review CAP checklists and policies/procedures to comply with standards.
- Test and implement new projects involving the Clinical and Pathology LIS; balance work across multiple projects and priorities with overlapping schedules.
- Recommend new technologies and tools to optimize workflow; ensure all projects are delivered within defined scope, quality, time, and cost requirements.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory systems, software and hardware; recommend and implement system enhancements and upgrades.
- Support lab database in preparing lab-specific ad hoc reports; maintain files, accumulate workload statistics; provide training related to the LIS; interact with vendors for selection and upgrade of software.
- Test with Laboratory Information System interfaces during system changes and version upgrades; manage interfaces to identify and fix issues between interfaces and the LIS application.
- Create and update documents to ensure knowledge transfer and enhanced support; implement change management requests in LIS; provide instrument/interface technical support.
- Work with application vendors, instrument vendors, and the laboratory to interface new instruments to the LIS; create reports and perform ad-hoc data/statistics extraction using the application, database, and SQL queries.
- Assist LIS Managers to coordinate projects and resource management; define and implement routine maintenance activities with LIS and IS support teams.
- End-user troubleshooting to ensure expedited resolution of issues in the production environment; resolve internal and helpdesk tickets and maintain updates in the vendor ticketing system.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.
- 1-3 years of experience in a LIS support role.
- Requires at least two years of experience in laboratory information systems, including database changes and instrument interfaces.
- 1-3 years of experience in the Information Technology industry, including responsibilities for supporting laboratory information systems, associated applications, and workstations.
- Must demonstrate advanced knowledge of industry-standard LIS systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, biology, medical laboratory technology, or related healthcare or general studies field.
