Responsibilities- Initiate and follow through with patient and family teaching.
- Identify and document initial observation and assessment of the patient's needs for immediate nursing action.
- Systematically and accurately assess nursing needs of the patient to detect pertinent changes in the clinical picture.
- Select, plan, evaluate, and document care based on this assessment.
- Assess, intervene, and document appropriately to meet patient education, psychosocial, and discharge planning needs.
- Initiate appropriate referrals to other departments, services, and/or outside agencies for patient care.
- Consult with unit nursing leadership regarding significant changes in patient condition.
- Communicate relevant patient care information on shift‑to‑shift report.
- Utilize patient care standards in clinical practice.
- Collaborate with all members of the health care team.
- Document pertinent information regarding patient response to treatment and progression toward discharge goals in the chart.
- Complete admission, discharge, and group documentation in electronic medical record.
- Seek clarification of physician orders that are unclear or inappropriate.
- Interpret clinical data and notify the physician promptly if immediate changes in management are indicated.
- Participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds by presenting findings on patients as it relates to admission/discharge and disease‑specific topics.
- Apply principles of infection control and safety.
- Adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and its Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
- Demonstrate customer service by respecting patients, being flexible, knowledgeable, professional, and patient‑oriented.
- Maintain departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Orient patients to the new environment; develop rapport with patients.
- Assist in data collection and analysis of quality of groups as they relate to depression disorders and self‑harm reduction.
- Use the hospital computer system effectively for job responsibilities, following hospital policy.
- Assist other personnel as needed and be assigned to patient care in emergencies or other duties as assigned.
- Keep up to date with current trends relevant to the area of assignment.
- Participate in continuing education activities; attend mandatory scheduled in‑service programs; share information gained at conferences with colleagues.
- Respond to hospital codes (Team 20, Dr. Strong, RRT and Code Blue) within assigned unit assignments.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Attend monthly unit meetings.
- Support overall objectives of the department and organization.
- Current NJ licensure as RN.
- Certifications:
BLS, ALCS, PALS, IV Therapy, ACLS, and PALS required upon hire;
Triage course upon hire. - Good interpersonal skills.
- English language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing).
BSN required, or proof of enrollment in an accredited BSN program with completion expected within three (3) years of start date.
Graduate OpportunitiesInexperienced ED nurses, including in‑house transfers and new graduates, can apply. BSN in progress may be accepted with a letter of matriculation showing expected completion within three years.
Job Setting / Physical DemandsEmergency Department setting. Frequently prolonged standing/walking. Protective clothing is worn: face shield, gloves, impermeable gown when required for infection control protocol; otherwise, behavioral health dress code; presentable street clothes.
Salary & BenefitsSalary commensurate with experience within posted range: $46.94–$66.43 per hour.
Differentials: weekend $2.25 per hour, evening difference 10%, night 12%, charge pay $2.25 per hour.
