Responsibilities- Completes assessment for new patients admitted to the service, including history and physical, medication reconciliation, problem list and plan of care.
- Performs assessment and plans for ongoing treatment for patients in the service.
- Provides psychiatric medication monitoring and counseling as necessary to assigned patients.
- Orders lab and diagnostic tests for patients in the service as appropriate to formulate diagnosis and develop treatment plan.
- Reviews results of lab and diagnostic tests and adjusts the treatment plan accordingly.
- Plans follow-up for patients with abnormal test results and intervenes per medical center policy and procedure.
- Ensures all entries to the medical record, paper or electronic, are appropriate, timed, dated, signed and legible.
- Promotes throughput for the service by achieving and maintaining medical center expectations for productivity.
- Provides patient education and feedback to promote health and wellness.
- Adheres to medical center policies and procedures and bylaws of the medical staff.
- Participates in department performance improvement initiatives; collects and aggregates data; works with leadership to develop a plan of correction.
- Fosters teamwork with other staff members and providers involved in the patient’s care; communicates pertinent information to supervisors, collaborating physicians, treatment teams and other community providers while maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
- Performs comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and mental examinations, including developmental and functional status determination.
- Interprets lab values and orders to correct abnormalities; evaluates consultations and presents concise case findings to physicians, differentiating normal from abnormal findings and suggesting differential or presumptive diagnoses.
- Develops a prioritized comprehensive problem list and documents all pertinent patient interactions and care.
- Provides discharge instructions with prescriptions and follow-up visits arranged.
- Participates in interdisciplinary quality improvement efforts to improve clinical practice.
- Demonstrates customer service attributes: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness; ensures responses are timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations.
- Maintains departmental policies and procedures, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards; assesses policy gaps and helps create needed policies and procedures.
- Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct; is familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
- Participates in continuing education activities; attends scheduled in-service programs; shares information gained at conferences with colleagues.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the department and organization.
- 2 years of related clinical nursing experience preferred.
- Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice; extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology, psychiatry and behavioral health.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
- Graduation from an approved Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current RN and NP NJ licensure required. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry preferred.
- BLS certification required.
- Holds current certification for prescriptive privileges.
Salary commensurate with experience within posted range: $68.14-$84.60 / Hour; $1.00 more for Doctorate and 2% more for Acute or Psych Certification.
