Responsibilities- Assessment
- Identify and document initial observations and assess patient needs for immediate nursing action.
- Systematically assess nursing needs to detect changes in the clinical picture.
- Select, plan, evaluate, and document care based on assessment.
- Intervene and document appropriately to meet educational, psychosocial, and discharge planning needs.
- Initiate referrals to other departments, services, and/or outside agencies.
- Direct Patient Care
- Initiate and follow through with patient and family teaching.
- Consult with unit Nursing Leadership regarding significant changes in patient condition.
- Communicate relevant patient care information on shift‑to‑shift reports.
- Utilize patient care standards in clinical practice.
- Collaborate with all health‑care team members.
- Document patient responses to treatment and progress toward discharge goals in the chart.
- Complete Admission, Discharge, and Group documentation in electronic medical records.
- Seek clarification of unclear or inappropriate physician orders.
- Interpret clinical data and notify physicians promptly if immediate changes are indicated.
- Indirect Patient Care Activities
- Participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds, presenting findings related to admission, discharge, and disease‑specific topics.
- Apply principles of infection control and safety.
- Understand and adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct, Mission, Vision, and Values statements.
- Maintain customer service standards: respect, flexibility, confidence, professionalism, a pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness; respond in a timely, professional, caring, and respectful manner.
- Other Duties
- Orient patients to the new environment and develop rapport.
- Assist in data collection and analysis of quality of groups related to depression disorders and self‑harm reduction.
- Effectively utilize the hospital computer system in accordance with hospital policy.
- Assist other personnel as needed and respond to hospital codes within unit assignments.
- Attend monthly unit meetings and mandatory in‑service programs; share information from conferences with colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support department and organization objectives.
- Current NJ licensure as RN required.
- BLS certification required.
- One year behavioral health experience with focus on admissions, discharges, and group management related to depressive disorders and self‑harm behaviors preferred.
- Clinical nursing skills for an experienced behavioral health RN.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- English proficiency sufficient for the position.
- Ability to work semi‑independently under supervision of NM/ADN.
- BSN required, or proof of enrollment in an accredited BSN program with expected completion within three years.
$46.94–$66.43 per hour (Differentials: Weekend $2.25 per hour, Evening $10% night $12% / Charge Pay $2.25 per hour).
