Responsibilities- Assessment, treatment, and patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development appropriate to the ages of patients served.
- Identify and document initial observations and assessments of patient’s needs for immediate nursing action.
- Systematically and accurately assess nursing needs of patients in order to detect pertinent changes in the clinical picture.
- Select, plan, evaluate, and document care based on assessment.
- Assess, intervene, and document appropriately to meet patient’s educational, psychosocial, and discharge planning needs.
- Initiate appropriate referrals to other departments, services, and/or outside agencies for patient care.
- Give comprehensive patient care and initiate and follow through with patient and family teaching.
- Consult with unit Nursing Leadership regarding significant changes in patient’s condition.
- Communicate relevant patient care information on a shift‑to‑shift report.
- Utilize patient care standards in clinical practice.
- Collaborate with all members of the health care team.
- Document pertinent information regarding patient’s response to treatment and progress toward discharge goals in the patient’s chart.
- Complete Admission, Discharge, and Groups in electronic medical records.
- Seek clarification of physician's orders that are unclear or inappropriate.
- Interpret clinical data and notify the physician promptly if immediate changes in management are indicated.
- Participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds and present findings on patients related to admission/discharge and groups on disease‑specific topics.
- Apply principles of infection control and safety.
- Understand and adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct and values statements.
- Provide customer service with respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness; respond promptly and professionally in accordance with service expectations.
- Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Orient patients to the new environment and develop rapport with patients.
- Assist in data collection and analysis of quality groups as they relate to depressive disorders and self‑harm reduction.
- Effectively utilize the hospital computer system as it pertains to job responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy.
- Assist other personnel as needed.
- Be assigned to patient care in an emergency or other duties as assigned.
- Keep up‑to‑date with current trends pertinent to the area of assignment.
- Participate in continuing education activities; attend mandatory scheduled in‑service programs; share information gained at conferences with colleagues.
- Respond to hospital codes within assigned unit assignments.
- Attend monthly unit meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.
- Current NJ licensure as RN required.
- BLS Certification required.
- One‑year behavioral health experience with a focus on admissions, discharges, and group management related to depressive disorders and self‑harm behaviors preferred.
- Clinical nursing skills for an experienced behavioral health RN.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Speaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position.
- Ability to work semi‑independently under the supervision of NM/ADNs.
- BSN required, or proof of enrollment in an accredited BSN program with completion expected within three (3) years of start date.
- Behavioral Health Service Units.
- Frequently prolonged standing/walking.
- Protective clothing worn: face shield, gloves, impermeable gown when required for infection control protocol; otherwise, behavioral health dress code; presentable street clothes.
Salary commensurate with experience within posted range. $46.94–$66.43 per hour.
Weekends: $2.25 per hour. Evenings: 10% differential. Nights: 12% differential. Charge pay: $2.25 per hour.
