Responsibilities- Assessment
:
Identify and document initial observations and assessment of the patient's needs for immediate nursing action. Systematically and accurately assess nursing needs to detect pertinent changes. Select, plan, evaluate, and document care based on assessment. Assess, intervene, and document to meet patient educational, psychosocial, and discharge planning needs. Initiate appropriate referrals. - Direct Patient Care
:
Initiate and follow through with patient and family teaching. Consult with unit nursing leadership regarding significant changes in patient's condition. Communicate relevant patient care information in shift-to-shift reports. Utilize patient care standards in clinical practice. Collaborate with all members of the health care team. Document pertinent information in the patient chart. Complete admission, discharge, and groups in electronic medical records.
Seek clarification of physician orders and interpret clinical data promptly. - Indirect Patient Care Activities
:
Participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds. Apply principles of infection control and safety. Maintain departmental policies, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct, Mission, Vision, and Values. Provide courteous customer service with professionalism and respect. - Other Duties
:
Orient patients and develop rapport; assist in data collection and analysis of quality groups; use hospital computer system; assist other personnel; respond to hospital codes; attend unit meetings; keep up to date with current trends; participate in continuing education; perform additional duties as assigned.
- Current NJ licensure as RN required.
- BLS Certification required.
- One-year behavioral health experience with focus on admissions, discharges, and group management related to Depressive Disorders and self-harm behaviors preferred.
- Clinical nursing skills for experienced behavioral health RN.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in English (reads, writes, speaks).
- Ability to work semi‑independently under supervision of NM/ADNs.
BSN required, or proof of enrollment in an accredited BSN program with completion expected within three (3) years of start date.
Job Setting / Physical DemandsBehavioral Health Service Units. Frequent prolonged standing/walking. Protective clothing worn: face shield, gloves, impermeable gown when required for infection control protocol; otherwise, behavioral health dress code; presentable street clothes.
