Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient care aligned with patient growth and development appropriate to age.
  • Take and record vital signs, report deviations to Primary or Charge Nurse.
  • Obtain specimens such as urine, stool, sputum.
  • Weigh patients and record weight.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living including skin care, bathing, dressing, ambulation, and meals.
  • Record oral intake and urinary output.
  • Perform assigned treatments such as simple dressing changes.
  • Communicate effectively with Charge Nurse/Primary Nurse regarding patients’ needs and requests.
  • Orient patients to environment and develop rapport with patients, families, and significant others.
  • Assist in patient management including de‑escalation, alternative activities to prevent restraint or seclusion, and physical assistance under direction of Registered Nurse.
  • Perform admission and unit searches, including observation of patient belongings and visual searches of same‑gender patients on admission.
  • Maintain cleanliness of patient and non‑patient areas by wiping tables, neatening storage rooms, pantries, etc.
  • Prepare bedside unit for new admissions with necessary supplies.
  • Apply infection control and safety principles in work environment.
  • Report significant unit problems to charge nurse.
  • Prevent contraband introduction by property search, unit rounds, and visitor monitoring.
  • Monitor visiting sessions as directed by Charge Nurse.
  • Assist in transporting patients to designated areas such as recreation activities, testing, court.
  • Assist with unit therapeutic activities as directed by Registered Nurse.
  • Ensure a safe unit environment through rounding, observation, and reporting issues.
  • Understand and adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards; assess gaps and create necessary policies.
  • Familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
  • Exhibit customer service attributes: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, helpfulness; respond timely, professionally, caring, respectfully per Customer Service Performance expectations.
Other Duties
  • Effectively utilize hospital computer system per job responsibilities and hospital policy.
  • Participate in orientation of nursing assistants.
  • Participate in unit committees and CQI activities as assigned.
  • Assist other personnel as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall objectives of department and organization.
Position Qualifications
  • Heartsaver/CPR Certification required.
  • Technical skills required for patient care.
  • Must pass Nursing Attendant test administered by BMC.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for OPS.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • English speaking, reading, and writing to the extent required by the position.
Education

High school graduation or equivalent required. Successful completion of an approved Nurse’s Aide training course preferred.

Licenses & Certifications
  • Heart Saver certification required.
Salary & Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience within posted range. $21.25 per hour with differential $1.15 for evening & weekend.
