Data Scientist
This grant-funded position supports the Center for Institutional Effectiveness in developing and implementing a systematic institutional research program to provide critical information to College decision-makers and outside agencies. This position provides data and research resources for grant development and evaluation. The position assists faculty and staff with developing and implementing the technical aspects of grants-related research projects and activities. Additional duties include collecting and analyzing internal data and external labor market information to support program needs, performance gaps, and opportunities to support the college’s implementation of the Perkins Grant.
POSITIONSUMMARY
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Extracts and organizes data from appropriate sources, including Ellucian Colleague, and analyzes data using appropriate statistical software.
- Conducts quantitative and qualitative data analysis, including the development of research, planning, outcomes assessment, and evaluation studies.
- Assists with designing and implementing research studies to support grants and institutional decision-making and respond to external requests and mandates.
- Designs appropriate research instruments, surveys, questionnaires, and data collection protocols, including coordinating focus groups, meetings, and grant schedules.
- Communicates survey and research findings both written and orally to a wide variety of audiences.
- Responds to ad-hoc data requests from administrators, faculty, and staff at the college.
- Maintains and updates formal reports and publications about the College, such as fact books, dashboards, data briefs, webpages, and other data visualization mediums to increase engagement and understanding of institutional data.
- Provides guidance and research support to faculty, staff, and institutional decision makers.
- Supports the development and completion of the Perkins Grant-related Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA) [Perkins Responsibility].
- Collects and analyzes internal data, including the preparation of the Perkins/Vocational Education Data System (VEDS) file and program dashboards, on CTE program and student performance and the attainment of state-negotiated standards and measures [Perkins Responsibility].
- Collects and analyzes feedback from other appropriate Perkins-defined required stakeholders (K-12 and higher education partners, Workforce Development Board, students and parents, Native American Tribes, and special populations) [Perkins Responsibility].
- Collects and analyzes external data, including local and regional K-12, census and economic data, employment/labor market data, and industry feedback [Perkins Responsibility].
- Assists with evaluating Perkins data, emphasizing program size, scope, and quality to identify and address programmatic/service shortfalls [Perkins Responsibility].
- Collaborates with the deans, department chairs, faculty, Grants staff, and other personnel to analyze and interpret CLNA findings and Perkins outcomes[Perkins Responsibility].
- Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Dean of Research and Institutional Effectiveness, or other designated management.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education Psychology, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Political Science, Data Science, or related field required.
Experience:Minimum of 3 years of experience in educational research or social science research, including research design, statistics, data analysis, and report preparation. Grants experience a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (a) Possesses working knowledge of statistics and research methodology; demonstrated skills in research design and data analysis. Demonstrates an understanding of grant development, implementation, and evaluation. Demonstrates proficiency in the full use of the Microsoft Office suite and in database and statistical software (i.e., SPSS). Possesses the ability to write queries similar to SQL. Must have a high tolerance for detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
