Job Description
The ideal Designated Selling Associate (DSA) Salesperson is passionate about fashion, enjoys working one-on-one with customers, and thrives in a sales environment. DSAs drive volume for Nordstrom while championing the brand they represent. They are leaders in customer service, product knowledge education, merchandising, and selling. They drive sales by understanding brand performance, cultivating relationships with both existing and new customers, and educating peers on brand trends, product knowledge, and style.
ADay in the Life
- Set and achieve sales goals for both in-store and digital selling, using selling tools such as text, social media, and reservations.
- Build lasting relationships with customers.
- Provide the best service to customers on their terms, and be flexible to perform duties in other departments as needed.
- Give honest and confident feedback to customers about style, fit, and the value of a piece.
- Seek fashion and product knowledge by attending meetings and trainings.
- Build relationships with other DSAs, Stylists, and surrounding departments by conducting DSA‑run product knowledge meetings.
- Provide valid product feedback to the DM to improve assortment.
- Drive predictable business through appointment‑based selling during events and non‑event time frames.
- Work with the team to keep the department customer‑ready: stocking, re‑merchandising, display, price markdowns, merchandise transfers, and cleaning.
- Grow sales by opening new Nordstrom Rewards program accounts.
- Hours and schedule vary week to week based on business needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport and cultivate relationships.
- Ability to excel in a competitive team environment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs.
- Ability to read sales reporting in relation to goals.
- Ability to educate customers on new and emerging brands and suggest suitable options.
- Confidence in handling high/low price points and showcasing item value.
- Strong organizational skills to strategically follow up and advise on wardrobe needs.
- Continuous movement for 6‑8 hours per shift, including bending, twisting, squatting, flexing, and reaching.
- Frequent use of hands for grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
- Handle bulky and oddly shaped items, lifting up to 25 pounds.
Hourly pay: $17.30 – $17.30. Commission varies with merchandise sold: 3% to 14.5% for apparel, shoes, and accessories; 3% for beauty and men’s fragrance roles.
