Responsibilities- Patrols all areas of the Medical Center, including stairwells and areas not accessible to the public to prevent and/or detect fires, thefts, vandalism and other security problems.
- Act as liaison between patients/visitors and the Medical Center, interpreting the Medical Center’s philosophy, policies, procedures and services to patients’ families and visitors.
- Provide regular reports on patient/visitor issues to administration; investigate and direct inquiries to appropriate staff members.
- Assist in referring patients and visitors to appropriate services and resources; respond personally when other alternatives are not available.
- Detect violations of the law and contact law enforcement when necessary; represent the Medical Center as the complainant/witness in any court proceedings that result.
- Prepare incident reports and conduct investigations when necessary.
- Assist in dealing with disruptive patients, visitors, or staff; participate in restraining emotionally disturbed patients when summoned by medical staff.
- Direct cars into available spots in the parking garage or lot; re-park double-parked cars, note final parking spot on ticket attached to keys, and place keys on keyboard.
- Report parking violations and abandoned vehicles.
- Take on dispatching responsibilities as needed (answering phones, entering information into the computer system, dispatching guards, monitoring the camera surveillance system and emergency alarm panels).
- Assume role of switchboard operator during the midnight shift (12am-8am).
- Log totals of daily receipts into the daily account sheet at end of every shift.
- Maintain customer service standards through respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness; respond timely, professionally, and respectfully in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations.
- Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Assess gaps in policies and procedures and create necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps.
- Understand and adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct; be familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements.
- Undertake a variety of driving assignments as required.
- Attend and participate in department meetings, training sessions and workshops.
- Assist in the maintenance of department equipment (e.g., checks that radio batteries are freshly charged and radio is functional; cleans and oils handcuffs).
- Escort employees to and from Parking Lot and other Medical Center buildings.
- Prepare and maintain department reports and records as required.
- Lock or unlock doors to offices, closets, etc. upon employee request and when given proper authority.
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature review and workshops.
- Perform other related duties as required and as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.
- Must pass security guard test and/or approved training through Bergen County Police & Fire Academy preferred.
- Ability to drive standard shift cars.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position; knowledge of a second language preferred.
- Must have valid Driver’s License.
High School Diploma/GED Required
Job Setting/Physical Demands- Contact with patients, visitors, employees, and others in all hospital areas.
- Subject to unpredictable conditions on foot, climbing stairs, manually lifting over 40 lbs plus, etc.
- Spends prolonged periods inside elevators, responding to calls, and enforcing rules and regulations.
- Frequent prolonged standing/walking.
- Physical force is used to restrain people when necessary.
Salary commensurate with experience within posted range. Differential details: $20.76/hour with various shift and location differentials as listed; additional compensation through security certifications.
