Job Overview

Security Guard – New Bridge Medical Center

Protect all areas of the Medical Center, ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff while providing a supportive and professional environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol all areas of the Medical Center, including stairwells and restricted zones, to prevent and detect fires, thefts, vandalism and other security problems.
  • Act as liaison between patients/visitors and the Medical Center, interpreting policies, procedures and services to families and visitors.
  • Provide regular reports on patient/visitor issues to administration; investigate inquiries and direct them to appropriate staff members.
  • Assist in referring patients and visitors to appropriate services and resources; respond personally when alternatives are not available.
  • Detect legal violations, contact law enforcement when required and represent the Medical Center in court proceedings.
  • Prepare incident reports and conduct investigations when necessary.
  • Assist in dealing with disruptive patients, visitors or staff and participate in restraining emotionally disturbed patients when summoned by medical staff.
  • Direct cars into available spots in parking garage or lot, re-park double-parked cars and report parking violations and abandoned vehicles.
  • Take on dispatching responsibilities, answer phones, enter information into the computer system, dispatch guards, and monitor surveillance, emergency alarms and CCTV.
  • Assume role of switchboard operator during midnight shift (12 am–8 am) and log daily receipts into the account sheet at shift end.
  • Deliver customer‑service‑oriented support: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience and helpfulness; maintain departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Assess gaps in policies and procedures, create necessary documentation to close gaps, and adhere to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct.
  • Understand and uphold the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision and Values Statements.
Other Duties
  • Undertake driving assignments as required.
  • Attend department meetings, training sessions and workshops.
  • Assist in maintaining department equipment; ensure radio batteries are charged and devices functional.
  • Escort employees between buildings.
  • Prepare and maintain department reports and records.
  • Lock or unlock doors upon employee request and proper authority.
  • Participate in professional development through education programs, literature review and workshops.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental objectives and organization.
Qualifications
  • Must pass security guard test and/or approved training via the Bergen County Police & Fire Academy (preferred).
  • Ability to drive standard shift vehicles.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in spoken English; knowledge of a second language preferred.
Education

High School Diploma or GED required.

Job Setting / Physical Demands

Contact with patients, visitors, employees and others throughout the hospital. Requires unpredictable foot travel, stair climbing, manual lifting over 40 lbs, prolonged standing/walking, standing in elevators, and use of physical force to restrain individuals when necessary.

Salary & Benefits

$20.76 hourly with differential: SWITCHBOARD $2.25, EVE 1.30, NIGHT SHIFT $1.60, WEEKEND $2.05, ACTING SUPV $2.00. Optional: additional $1.00 per HR per security certification through IAHSS.
