Extension Educator, Agriculture and Agribusiness (Local Food Systems and Small Farms)

Location:
Unit 20 – Clark, Crawford and Edgar Counties (Position will be housed in Edgar County – Paris, IL). One full‑time position is available.
- Program Development, Delivery, and Evaluation:
Provide program leadership, interpret and integrate information, teach, maintain competencies, assist clients with resources, assess needs, network with community organizations, develop innovative curricula, deliver high‑impact programs, guide program expansion and quality, support voluntary educational delivery systems, evaluate program impact, develop contemporary communication approaches, comply with reporting deadlines. - Organizational Leadership and Development:
Market and represent Extension’s interests, compete for internal and external resources, cooperate with County Director, develop professional collaborations, support the university program, accept statewide responsibilities, serve as effective team member, lead unit team, perform other duties supporting mission. - Scholarship:
Establish professional relationships and campus‑based partnerships, be active in professional society, seek professional development opportunities, use research and evaluation findings to improve programs, share evidence‑based best practices with peers. - Other Information:
Assist unit staff with gathering demographic information for civil rights reporting; local, regional and limited statewide travel required (personal transportation required).
Work requires both office and community locations, travel within the multi‑county unit, securing personal transportation, valid driver’s license preferred, may require evening or weekend work, exposure to various environmental factors, ability to transport up to 40 pounds, mental and physical demands described in HR.
Administrative and Programmatic RelationshipsAdministratively responsible to the County Director. Programmatically responsible to the Program Leader(s) for delivery of programs aligned with national and state priorities.
Minimum Qualifications- Education: Master’s degree related to subject matter emphasis from an accredited institution. Examples: agricultural economics, agronomy, entomology, horticulture, plant pathology, soil science, weed science. Other fields considered with relevant experience.
- Experience: Informal and/or formal teaching experiences.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Work experience with agriculture.
- Ability to organize, manage, and conduct educational activities for adult audiences.
- Knowledge and experience in program planning, promotion, and resource development.
- Experience with University of Illinois Extension.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work within a team, ability to build and maintain networks.
This is a full‑time, benefits‑eligible, non‑tenure academic professional position on a 12‑month service basis. Salary range: $59,000 to $82,000, finalized through internal calculation. The position is not eligible for work authorization sponsorship.
