Media Arts Instructor (Grades 6-12)
Position Overview
Paris City Schools is seeking a creative, student-centered educator to serve as a Media Arts Instructor across middle and high school grades (6-12). This position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in digital media, visual storytelling, and creative production while preparing students for college, career, and industry pathways.
The ideal candidate understands that Media Arts is not just creativity-it is communication, critical thinking, and real-world skill development aligned to the expectations of the Kentucky Department of Education.
Primary Responsibilities
Instruction and Curriculum
- Deliver instruction aligned to the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Visual and Performing Arts and Career and Technical Education pathways where applicable
- Design and implement engaging units in:
- Digital media production
- Video editing and broadcasting
- Graphic design and visual communication
- Photography and digital storytelling
- Incorporate project-based learning (PBL) and authentic performance tasks
- Ensure lessons include:
- Clear learning targets and success criteria
- Student engagement through collaboration and discourse
- Opportunities for creativity and innovation
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress
- Provide timely, actionable feedback aligned to learning standards
- Maintain accurate student data and adjust instruction based on performance
- Support student development toward college and career readiness indicators
- Teach students to effectively use industry-relevant tools and platforms for media creation
- Promote digital citizenship, ethical media use, and responsible technology practices
- Oversee school-based media initiatives such as:
- School announcements or broadcasting
- Digital portfolios
- Media coverage of school events
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on student outcomes and instructional improvement
- Align instruction to High-Quality Instructional Resources (HQIR) where applicable
- Collaborate with staff across content areas to integrate media arts into interdisciplinary learning
- Engage in continuous professional growth aligned with KDE expectations and district initiatives
The Media Arts Instructor will:
- Align all instruction to Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS)
- Demonstrate proficiency in standards-based planning, instruction, and assessment
- Implement equitable instructional practices that ensure access for all learners
- Support the development of Portrait of a Learner skills:
- Communication
- Creativity
- Critical thinking
- Collaboration
- Utilize data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes
- Maintain compliance with state accountability and program expectations
Required
- Valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate (appropriate certification in Media Arts, Art Education, or related field)
- Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into instruction
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
- Experience teaching Media Arts. Digital Media, or related coursework
- Knowledge of video editing, graphic design software, and media production tools
- Experience with project-based learning and portfolio-based assessment
- Ability to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways
- Every student can create, communicate, and succeed at high levels
- Media Arts is a vehicle for student voice and real-world readiness
- Instruction must be engaging, relevant, and standards-driven
- Classrooms should reflect innovation, structure, and accountability
- The work should be visible-students produce, present, and perform
- Salary based on the district salary schedule
- Additional duties as assigned by school leadership
